AquaHot Boiler Fluid

I've read here and there different discussions regarding the black slim some people encounter inside their AquaHot reservoir.

I tend to think that just "maybe" the inner core of all the black rubber hoses carrying the hot fluid maybe a contributing factor, but then again, there is an ongoing conversation regarding the fluid breaking down due to poor quality control from the manufacture, specifically Century.

I have had a couple conversations, (hoping to gain more experiences and opinions from this post) stating that Camco pink is much better quality hydronic boiler fluid than Century. I've researched Camco, and in 2019 Camco sold their liquids line and the new company discontinued the Camco boiler fluid. I would assume this was a strategic marketing move on their part. They are StarBright pink fluid. I have found very limited about this product, hoping to gain anything y'all have on this topic AND product StarBright hydronic boiler fluid vs Century.

(including why I am got the slime in the first place) currently running Century green, had two overheats due to air in the heat exchanger lines, got that taken care of burping all air out and topped off the system and all has been working just fine, but since the green has turned to a light brownish with some black slime. Hope to gain wisdom from y'all,

All good guesses. The hoses could be contributing, there could be junk from the manufacture still in the system, or the glycol could be breaking down. Ethylene and Propylene glycol are both biodegradable, so they'll turn to slime if not protected from "life", I'd guess most systems are protected by the high ph and the leaching of copper and zinc, which are both highly toxic to micro organisms. More exposure to air, longer periods of storage so less heating, more dirt contamination, could all contribute. On a 2024 bio slime is probably less likely than the system being put together dirty, like if they used an open flush cart at the factory with no control over the dirt introduced, or funk growing in the solution.

Yes, flush and fill
The discoloration is caused by the fluid overheating in the unit from low or no flow.
The black fungus is moisture build up in the fluid from not being used and heated which kills the fungus
Aquahot recommends to replace fluid at 10years but that’s probably based on a unit with no issues
They also state to check the fluid level in the overflow bottle only at operating temperature because if top off cold the fluid expands and overflows
After you service the unit run it and make sure all zones work correctly and all pumps run
Service the spray nozzle and fuel filter yearly and “ exercise “ or run the unit once a month
You can get the owners manual and service manual off the net as well as find professional and diy videos on youtube
You can get the century fluid from Amazon which is what Heatmyrv here in Denver sells
John Carrillo worked for aquahot/hydra hot at its inception and now has his own shop.
Get all my parts from him except nozzle, filter, and fluid
Danfoss nozzle can be purchased on EBay for $8 ea and $5 shipping instead of $24 on Amazon
Buy the century Concentrate fluid on Amazon and mix 2 to 1
