Did you get the standard unit or the Helium-filled unit?

I got the standard unit. I read the helium units are not as efficient as the hydrogen / ammonia ones. Especially in high heat areas like Tx.

The Amish built cooling units for the Norcold 1200 charged with Helium are not Hydrogen designed cooling unit charged with Helium, they are designed specifically for Helium. The testing on the Helium unit was in a control temp of 110 degree for days. Compared to the Hydrogen at the same time of testing the Helium was about 5 degree colder. If you take a Hydrogen design coil charge it with Helium it will cool in temps lower than 92 degree, temps above 92 the hydrogen designed coils starts losing fast.. The Amish manufacture did not want to just charge already designed Hydrogen coils, they wanted to make one design for Helium to produce a cold temp refrigerator in hot weather, plus Helium is a none flammable invert gas. Helium rises slower, needs more volume, and higher pressure. The Amish built Helium coils have large diameter coils in foam pack and more tubes in foam pack (evaporator section).

I had JC Refridgeration install the Helium charged unit. Was $200 more for the helium, but we fell better with it. At a setting of 5, the freezer is -2 and the fridge is 33/34. We have had some 90+ degree days here and the temps hold.

My Norcold just bit the dust. I was wondering which unit you went with? Also how was the installation process ? Any tips or hints you could share ?

Thanks,

Dan

Arcticold cooling unit vs Amish

RV Dan

I went with the standard Amish unit. Just got it in yesterday. Works great. Watch the you tube videos to get some insite on the disassembly and install. Great reference. Also Rvcoolingunits.com has some videos on there website. Build yourself a platform to pull it out onto. That was a back saver. Also don't spare the foam sealer it is very important to have an airtight seal on the foam pack. You can email Dave Force @ Rv cooling for advice. He's great to work with. # 1 customer service.

All done inside the coach. Take lots of pictures of wiring. Use tape with identifying numbers on them. Don't rely on memory.

Notice the wood platform under the ice box. Real back saver.

Dan, I would seriously consider paying the extra for the helium-filled unit, IF it's as efficient as the other one. I didn't know about it when I got mine!
