Atwood 8525 IV DCLP Replacement

Atwood Furnace Problems. Thanks all for posting on the problems you have had with your Atwood 8525 IV DCLP furnace. I have had mostly the same problems with mine. Turns out local RV Tech's refuse to work on RV's more than 10 years old and especially Atwood Furnaces. So, I decided to try to fix it myself. I started by pulling the fan cover and cleaning the fan blades then replacing the Sail Switch with a new one, didn't help, then I replaced the limit switch with new one, didn't help, then I replaced the igniter, didn't help, then I replaced the control panel with a Dinosaur, didn't help!

I'm to the point of lost faith in my old ATWOOD 8525 IV DCLP and now I am trying to choose a replacement furnace to put in it's place. Any recommendations on which furnace to replace it with?

Firstly, quit throwing parts at it and figure out why it isn’t working g right

http://techsupport.pdxrvwholesale.co...anual-2015.pdf

Once you have exhausted your means of figuring it out, come back and post your findings.questions.

The problem could be as simple as a bad ground bond between the furnace and chassis ground, to a bad gas valve or LP regulator.

There are tons of videos on troubleshooting the Atwood 85xx series furnace. Here is a link to one of the better RV repair content providers. They have multiple Atwood repair videos. This is just one of them that gives a good overview of the furnace. This example is the 8525 3 series, but the principles for troubleshooting are the same.

As MrMark52 stated, you need to educate yourself and follow the process for successful ignition. More than likely, you do not need to replace it. Google and research are your friends.

Also, please add your coach manufacturer and year in the signature. Good etiquette and helps people help you.

Awesome. Now, back to your question. Lots of info on the web about servicing the Atwood 85xx furnace.

About the only thing I haven't changed is the gas regulator. I have even replaced/rebuilt some of the wiring with heavier gauge copper wire and higher quality connectors. I have looked at close to 25 videos on the subject including the good fellow from Port Angeles (very near to where I grew up) and Poulsbo, and just about every thing I could find on the internet, which brought me to this point of frustration. I've been chasing this devil for nearly 4 months motivated by the one single time the furnace fired up and worked for a couple minutes. That local RV techs refuse to work on anything more than 10 years old motivated my search to replace the Atwood.
Oh, and it was an early video that suggested the sail switch should be replaced first. and then the etc. fell in behind recommending replacing the limit switch, then igniter, then the control board, etc. The only thing that hasn't been changed is the gas regulator but then there weren't many videos recommending replacement of the gas regulator. So far!

Other than lubricating the motors on our 2 2002 model Atwood’s, they have been flawless, and I’m sure the same holds true for a majority of the units out there.

Understand what each component in the furnace does and how it interacts with the others before throwing parts at it - which is generally what the Moho/RV techs do anyway (costing you even more money for needlessly replaced parts).

has anyone come up with a good replacement for the Atwood in a 2000 discovery? I ask because mine is basically gone...
I have been trying to find a replacement either new or used...

Anyone else had to do this?

I feel fortunate. My two Atwood furnaces are still working well in my 2000 Disco. Here is a link to a used 8525 for a very good price.

Old-Bisquit, here is a great big "thank you" for posting the Dometic furnace model number for the REPLACEMENT Dometic furnace that is a viable replacement for the Atwood 8525. That key piece of info led me to search for one. I found one for $1279, another for $784, and a new one for $355. See:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...89111436%22%7D at Darren Bideaux RV In West Haven, Utah. The price was $355 plus $120 to ship and other fees. I couldn't pass it up. They ran out of the DFMD30121; but still had the DFMD25121

Just curious, where did you get the black face plate you show on your post?

A big THANK YOU for posting the very piece of info to identify the Dometic furnace needed to replace the Atwood.
