Atwood Stove Top Won't Stay On

Hi all,
I have an Atwood range which works fine. The thing that bothers me it the top will not stay on. I hit a bump in the road and the top loosens up and rattles like crazy. I am not talking about the grate I am talking about the whole top on which the grate sits. I get it seated in the spring clips and while stationary no problem.
I am about ready to get a diamond bit and drill a couple homes in it to hold it down.
Has anybody else ever have this problem? Its driving me nuts

Dave

Mine is porcelain enamel so it looks like I will try the diamond bit. Home Depot has them for around $8.00. I figure I'll give it a whirl.
I thought I was the only one in the world that had this problem

Ok , both the repairs I made on last 2 RVs were on metal top panels , so maybe another plan might be in order for your application. If drilling doesn't do the top in , tightening a screw against it may, particularly on a rough road.

Hi Skip,

An update.... I didn't really need the diamond bit after all. A regular bit went right through it. There is not much porcelain on the metal at all. I tried your method first. I did manage to drill a hole right dead center over one of the burner feed tubes. I couldn't of done that if I tried. So I have an extra hole that I had to plug. I got some porcelain repair paint and touched up the screw heads and the plug in the hole. Thing looks factory.
