Atwood water heater GC6AA-10E. What is a Good Replacement?

Just got our motorhome out of winter storage. 2008 Hurricane 333h. 1st winter storage with no heat. Water heater was drained the same as every other year. But some water must have been left in tank. Tank split.

Motorhome has a Atwood water heater GC6AA-10E. What is a good replacement unit. I have been searching for a few hours today. Found lots of info, Atwood bought out by Dometic. Dometic quits selling Atwood, without a good replacement.

Thanks in advance for anyones help or info.

Remove the water heater and have the split in tank welded up.
Aluminum tank and can be repaired by any weld shop fairly cheap
Need the Seal Ring/Gasket Kit if tank has to be separated from Drawn Pan
Atwood 96010

Buy a replacement tank...if you can find one
Atwood 91059

Dometic has 'their' own 6 gal now...no longer supporting Atwood models
The Dometic WH-6GEA is a replacement BUT you have to also buy the 'conversion' kit---wider door with end spacers ---Dometic is narrower and Deeper than the Atwood (12-3/4"H x 12-3/4"W x 19-7/8"D)

Dometic WH-6GEA 94002SP
Dometic Conversion Kit 94016

There are some Tankless On Demand that will fit the cut out opening but I do not have a reference (not a fan of Tankless in an RV)

Check out Suburban SAW6DE.....IIRC it is close to same cutout dimensions as Atwood GC6aa-10E

I thought about having tank repaired or replacing tank. I figured since it is 14 years old, that I would be better off just replacing the whole assembly. The Dometic #'s and suburban #'s are the same ones that I found later yesterday. I will have to call around on monday , and see who has it in stock.

This would have been great, but it is out of stock. I did find an Atwood for $1699.00 some place last night, showed that they had 1 in stock. A little ridiculous on price.....

When I inquired about the original scratch and dent water heater I posted they did say it was out of stock but this is supposed to be a direct replacement.Click image for larger version

The Dometic WH-6GEA is NOT a DIRECT replacement for an Atwood GC6AA-10E water heater

Dometic is Narrower and Deeper than the Atwood
*Hence the requirement for the Conversion Kit...narrower door with spacer side panels
(both of which are also OUT OF STOCK)

I am certainly glad you are still watching this thread. That is why I said he should go to their website. Problem is they may have given him the same bad info the gave me.

Old Biscuit you are the best.

So the Suburban SAW6DE 6 Gallon RV Water Heater Direct Spark 5321A - Replaces Atwood GC6AA-10E Look like the best replacement, with the least amount of changes? Can I use my existing switches to operate the Suburban water heater?
http://www.rvpartscountry.com/suburb...ter-5321a.html

Thanks for the info, so far...

Your Atwood uses 12VDC to the Elect/Gas On/Off Switches which sends 12VDC to the circuit board that controls both Elect/Gas operations

Suburban Elect/Gas are completely separate controls
12VDC goes to the GAS on/off Switch which sends 12VDC to/thru the set of t-stats and then to circuit board for GAS functions
120VAC goes from 15 Circuit Breaker to OEM Elect On/Off Switch (outside compartment) then to/thru set of t-stats and to element
12VDC and 120VAC wiring connections are done in the DC Junction Box and AC Junction Box on the sides of the WH Tank

*Inside Switch for Electric would need to be 120VAC Rated and wired in series with the OEM Switch in outside compartment

Suburban SAW6DEL....uses 12VDC to control Electric and Gas on/off
AC /Gas functions are still separate but the DC triggers a Relay to allow 120VAC to OEM On/Off Switch

Bumping this thread

So our GC6AA-10E water heater cracked, again. This will be my third water heater in this camper. I thought it was drained, etc... we had 0 degree weather here over Christmas and it cracked.

I am looking for the best replacement to go in the 16"x16" hole. So far it seems the new Dometic units with a door conversion kit?

I don't think we are interested in tankless... do they run on both electric and propane?

Thanks in advance!
