Bathroom Fantastic Fan

i replaced my original fantastic fan because i thought it was wearing down. it ha s a variable speed switch. it would not run at a low speed until i turned the knob to the half way point. now after replacing this unit, my new fan is running the same way. the fan in the kitchen adjusts normal. any idea what the reason is for the difference in the 2 fans?

Is the variable speed switch physically on the fan or is it remote? If remote I think the potentiometer is dirty and needs to be sprayed with electric contact cleaner.

Is your new fan remote control, or is the speed control mounted externally to the fan?

i believe it's a standard fan. one 12 volt line and a ground. the variable speed control is mounted on the wall with the switch to open and close the vent cover.

I looked online at the available fans from Dometic and am a bit confused. Which model did you install?

Are your wall controls SPEED and OPEN/CLOSE or maybe RAISE/LOWER?

Also, how many wires did you connect to the fan? Were there any other wires in the opening for the fan? And is this new fan motor a pancake motor and the original you had a cannister type motor?

The reason I ask about the motors is that the upgrade kit I bought from Dometic would not work with the older cannister motor and I was just wondering what the newer fan was using for the fan motor.

one control for raising/lowering the vent cover, one control to work the rpm. 2 wires- ground and hot. we're kind of getting away from my original question.

I guess we are. I think the previous post suggesting you check the speed control. I you can get to it and spray some contact cleaner into the speed control that may solve your problem.
