Battery cutoff switch

i would appreciate experience-based recommendations for a quality battery cut off switch for our new-to-us ‘95 monaco dynasty.

we are **very** occasional users and i would like to minimize batt maint / charge issues.

thx in advance.

Simplest would be to add a physical disconnect at the batteries. A variety of types are available.

If you have an electrical disconnect switch at the entrance, then hunt down the bad solenoid and buy a compatible replacement. Many RVs are equipped with Intellitec battery disconnects.

If you never had one installed, besides the solenoid, you might have to install the entryway switch. This one is only for one battery system, if you want both house and chassis batteries, there are panels with two switches available.

I recommend a Cat battery cut off switch.

Most of the ones out there are not rated for the amps that your engine can draw.

Caterpillar Part # 7N0719 or 7H7290.

Is there a cutoff switch now? If not you may want to consider what you want to isolate. On the 2004 monaco I had the battery cutoff did not cut all power. IE the transmission etc. You may want to seek advise as to what to isolate.

Why I agree a knife switch cutoff right at the battery is simplest....

worse thing about them though, is remembering to close it to reconnect the batteries when it won't start in 6 months

Blue Sea is a good brand also and comes in a variety of amperage ratings.

That switch has a 750 amp surge rating.

Pair that up with a 1000 CCA battery, on a cold day and it should get nice and hot. Heat is resistance and that effects your cranking.

All electrical devices have internally stored Smoke. This switch sounds like an Approved Method to let that smoke out from the battery cables.

While the switch will cut off battery drain due to phantom or real loads, it will not stop normal battery drain that occurs in all batteries. You have three options to insure the batteries are well cared for - plug your coach in and allow the coach charger to top up the batteries regularly, run the generator/charger or engine using the alternator to do so, or install one or more 100 watt solar panels and never have to worry. If you want worry proof protection to insure you realize the full life of the batteries, go for the solar even though it will cost more. Good luck,
