Battery equalizer

Hello, Iím working on a 1989 MCI 47 passenger bus. Rather still original
Just a short history, it was purchased by the superintendent of the school I drive for at auction. It has seen many moons and is rather tired but I love driving it.
I have personally logged at least 18k miles on it and not many of the systems work anymore. The super has a sense of pride of steel or embarrassment truthfully so contrary to popular opinion it is still being fed money.
My issue is the battery equalizer drains the batteries and it wonít start, rather than go through process of testing I just eliminated the equalizer and let it set. Starts right off.
Can I permanently eliminate the equalizer? Iím fairly certain no amp hungry 12 volt accessories are still operational.

If you are discussing the converter to maintain a charge on the batteries, you will need it to keep the batteries charges while parked, at least.
The house batteries run allot of gear, lights, radio, CO detector, water pump, and other gear.
Find out what the issue is with it, and you will be happier.

Thanks for your response. It would be nice to have some of the amenities that you mentioned, but as I stated in my post this bus is original. When itís parked there is nothing running to drain battery. Itís used solely for transportation of school kids for school events, the a/c doesnít work so itís used in colder months only. I disconnected the equalizer and left it set and it starts right away. So Iím pretty sure the equalizer is causing the problem, does it really even matter if itís there in light of these facts?

What is the equalizer?

If its one of those aftermarket battery conditioners that connects between the + and - posts, it's only for rigs that are left on shore power, with a float charger running.

If your not storing with shore power, it just drains the battery. Throw it out.

This is a 24/12 volt 60amp equalizer. It does seem to be faulty, it failed the short test of powering the 12v side and connecting a 12 volt headlight to one side and grounding the other. No activity so have new equalizer coming. Thanks to those who offered help.
