Battery problem

A little duct tape or maybe epoxy?

Seriously though, water was good, charger OK. Luckily I had the step in place or the acid might have been all over the interior. I ran the generator today and I smelled something strange but thought it was only an exhaust smell like you get following some cars. The case just exploded on the end, blew the caps off and blew a hole in the top-center of the battery. I got about 8 years out of them so I guess I did OK. I was going to replace them anyway this year with 6 volt golf cart batteries.

Charging creates explosive hydrogen gas.

Spark from bad connection sets off hydrogen explosion.

We used to overcharge batteries, collect the gas in soda bottles, and light them off with 24 gauge shorted wires. BOOM !!

Everything was tight when I took it out.
I made a spark with a loose connection once on a large high-lift battery and it blew the corner off of the battery. The piece hit my finger so hard I thought I lost a finger. I ran to the men's room and washed off good. All I got was a small burn on my lip. My pants looked like someone shot them with a shotgun when I washed them.

You are very fortunate, sulfuric acid in the eyes causes permanent damage.

Could be a nice advertisement for Interstate. 8 years is a gift.

Internal loose connections or a piece of plate inside the battery shorting two plates is a common cause.
