Battery terminals on 6V House Batteries
Hi Guys,
I've attached a photo of a typical 6V house battery that got knocked off the battery when I was replacing the old batteries in the RV. What I noticed was the clamp-on cable terminals are too small for the clamp-on terminals on the batteries. This seems to be because the manufacturer made the tapered terminals the same diameter (at the bottom) as the full-length terminals of a standard battery. Even spreading the terminals apart on the cable end is not a good solution. The clamp-on male terminal is only 3/8 inch tall, and the 1/4 inch stud is 5/8 inches tall. So the question is, do they make special clamps that work with these short, fat male battery terminals?
I like to use a battery cut-off switch on my rig to make sure the batteries don't drain during non-use periods, yet I can't fit the switch onto the male terminal because it's about 1/8 inch too narrow on the female side. I'm a little frustrated with this situation. Thanks for your thoughts.

Is the problem that what you are holding in your hand is broken off of the new battery or that the clamp on the cable end won't fit the battery post? if it's a fitment issue, they do make clamp on studs that screw on to the threaded battery post.

The photo is of a battery terminal on the old "core" I removed from the RV. The screw-on studs are a good idea, but I still need the 1/4 stud sticking out of the top. There are a lot of wires connected to the battery terminals and I need all the attachment points I can get.

You are aware that there are 2 different size clamp on terminals ?
Positive is larger then negetive ones.

You can buy a bus bar to run all of the cables to, then a single cable to the switch and then battery.

Put the wires on the stud, then install the screw-on terminal.

It used to fit (barely) on the old battery. Now it doesn't fit at all. I wonder if the battery got made with the wrong size terminal on the negative side.
Thank you very much for the suggestions!

Excellent idea, which I hadn't considered. Thank you very much! At 72, I'm not using my brain as well as I used to!

I'm not sure I follow what your doing but If your using a disconnect betwern a pair of series batteries, It can be on either end of the jumper.
If your using one of the switch types that sit on the post, they also come in two sizes, like the cable clamps.
