What type of wirings needed to connect batteries together?
Hi Guys. New to RVs, just purchased a class C a month ago. I will be doing quite a bit of boondocking so purchased 2 12volt batteries for the coach. I知 getting ready to hook them up and wanted to know what Gauge size to use to wire them together. The wire size throughout the coach is 8. The end wires that connect to the existing battery are #2. Do I have to also use 2 gauge to hook up the batteries together or would 4 gauge be ok?

If there's a fuse in the 2 gauge wire, you may want to stay with the same size to the next battery.
If the fuse is to high for 4 gauge wire, it could overheat it, causing a fire hazard.

Technically with a parallel pair of 12V batteries the current through the jumpers is only half, and being a short run (a foot or two) the voltage drop would be minimal so one could "get away" with using a lighter gauge. Conversely, being just a few feet of cable there's really no economy in making the jumpers light, so my vote would be to make them the same gauge of whatever the primary feed is.

Yea I think I知 jut going to go with the same gauge. I just couldn稚 find the 2 at my local auto parts stores, they only had 4. I知 going to check Home Depot in the morning

You also have the flexibility to go to a pair of 6V GCs in series as the jumper in that case carries the full amps. Of course you could use 2 smaller ones for the series jumper.

That was the original plan but I can’t find any 6v that will fit under my steps where the battery set up is. They are too tall. I can only fit about 10” tall

Amazon has a large selection of various gauge jumpers of different lengths.
