Battleborn CG2 alternatives?

Our lead acid batteries are in a compartment under the steps in our Class A. I measured the tray where the batteries sit and came up with 33.5" wide x 10.875" deep x 14" high (max). Thereforee the only lithiums I can find are the Battleborn CG2 form factor. I am ready to bite the bullet and buy four of these at $899 each but before I do that are there any alternative batteries in this same form factor that are not some cheap Chinese knockoffs? I like the fact that Batleborns have a fantastic reputation and are American made but I'm always ready to save a buck if the product is of equal quality and has a good reputation. I like Dakota batteries too but it does not appear they have this CG2 form.

Also, We had an Escapees membership for two years but never used it so we dropped it. I know they have a discount code for battleborn products but I can't find what the discount is. Anybody clue me in before I rejoin?

Thanks

Just ask'n: Have you verified that your charger (or Inverter/charger) can charge LFP batteries?

If I am not mistaken, it is not as simple as just replacing the batteries. I believe there are additional require TST for the charging and monitoring system. Maybe AGM would be the better solution if you need major upgrades just to accommodate Lithium Ion batteries?

Check out Will Prowse channel on YouTube. He has a number of Lithium 12v battery comparisons. Here's one for example:

I am having them professionally installed along with an additional 800w of solar added to the 300w I already have. I have a 2022 Fleetwood Southwind 37F that is already set-up for LFP batteries. My installer has looked at my system and knows everything that will be needed. He gave me the option of buying the batteries on my own or said he could supply them at the battleborn retail price ($899 each). He will install any batteries I supply. I am just looking for a quality lower cost alternative (if there is one) and/or a discount option on the battleborns if I go that route (which I probably will).

Thanks

I think you're out of luck in finding a lesser priced alternative that meets your criteria. The only GC2 battery I found was a Discover SLP-GC2-12V battery, but it was $1,200 and is manufactured in China, Taiwan and Korea.

However, LiFePO4 batteries can be installed anywhere, you're not limited to your existing battery location and they can be mounted in any orientation, stacked, vertical, on their side, etc.

Some install them under the bed or in other inside locations. A storage bay is another option. Doing so will involve some re-cabling but there are distinct advantages in mounting it in a heated space such as mitigating low temperature charging issues, etc. Storage bays can probably be insulated and heated easier than your existing battery compartment.

Your existing battery location most likely is uninsulated and may even be open to the elements. You'll still need batteries with low-temp cutoff, but, if they're mounted inside, you'll be able to charge them if your heater's on. The $899 GC2 Battle Born battery doesn't have integrated heaters so they would also benefit from being mounted in a heated space. The heated version is $999 and I'd suggest considering that if you're going to mount them in your existing battery location.

The aforementioned Will Prowse has a number of videos in which he tests various LiFePO4 batteries, including a teardown that often finds hidden flaws, disconnected or missing temperature sensors, etc. There are several batteries he recommends in the lower price ranges, Chin, SOK and others, but they're not made in the USA. These run somewhere around $500 - $600 and those at the top end will have integrated heaters to allow for charging below 32°F.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any non-Battle Born battery he hasn't fully tested and found to be a good option. The above video is pretty old so make sure you look at his more recent videos if you're interested.

Unless you're on a tight budget, you'll probably never regret buying Battle Born batteries and will probably get better customer support in the case of a problem. Even though Battle Born batteries are manufactured in Nevada, I'm wouldn't be surprised if their cells and other components were manufactured off-shore.

You sure there isn't a betterplace to put your batteries? I went with a couple Lifepower EG4 rack mount batteries and put them in my bedroom bedside table. I plan on finding a place for the chassis batteries then hopefully converting the old battery bay for a compartment for a smoker

I have spent a couple of days in Quartzsite and have looked at a number of battery sellers where the prices range from $1100 down to $345 for a 100amp battery. Post #4 gave some good info on where to check out battery info. Will knows his stuff so use his knowledge to make your decision. From what I have seen, there are much better deals than Battleborn, they are very proud of their batteries. BTW, FMCA does have a discount code for Battleborn

Battleborns are overpriced. There are better deals to be had.

100Ah SOK battery at $570 - 10.6" x 7.9" x 9.1" (LxWxH)

or, a better deal . . .

206Ah SOK battery at $1019.

I have the same issue on my Bounder 35k. Batteries are in step and limited in size. I believe I could squeeze 2 of the SOK 200ah. I like the fact that the SOK can be opened up if the need arises.

If I decide to only go with a single 200ah battery and save some $$$, I would go with the Lossigy. It is narrower than the other 200ah batteries and will fit perfectly. It runs in the $600’s for 200ah. They are working fine in a friends rig.
