I have to replace my new demensions refrigerator and was interested in what others have done. My cooling coil has split and it is not on the recall list. Has anyone else had this problem with Model #1292 side by side with icemaker? I was told it would would cost about 1800.00 to repair mine and that seems high. Any thoughts?

I would recommend you compare repair to replacement of the complete refrigerator. Keep in mind as to how long you may plan to keep the coach. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

A new 1292 is $1,600 at Camping world and cost $215 to install. I would go that route before an $1,800 repair. RV Upgrades carries Norecold and does not list any side by side units however they have the replacement cooling unit for your Dometic for $812 so I would expect a quote of less than $1,200 for the total repair including parts. I would go with the replacement cooling and replace it myself but if you are not up to that then I would go with the new one.

I have done a few cooling units and they are not to bad to do, the directions are very good. The hardest part is removing the fridge from the spot, you will need a helper, mabye a small dolly would make it easier for you.

If you do some of your own repairs this is not to difficult, as long you follow the manufac directions and test propane system when you are done for any leaks.
