Can't find a rf197 - in a hurry!

hey all, leaving for our long north trip in 2 days, and my Norcold just bit the bullet.

Thought it would be easy - call home depot, do that 197 change and off

welll... I can't seem to locate one in Houston (i can order online, but it would arrive after we left)

Any recommendation on another fridge that might work as well for the space?

I even considered ripping out the dinette table and stowing a minifridge there I just need some eggs and bacon

Spoken like a true RVM!

Keep in mind that you will need to find a good place to make the swap and the time for them to do it. It can be done in a day by a competent retrofitter but things can happen needing a tad more. That assumes you have properly determined you have the room. For us, we had a furnace below the Norcold that we could lower the floor about 3" to make room. Width was no problem and depth was no problem either. BTW...don't secure the rear inspection plate on the refer until AFTER it is installed into the coach. If you do and use all the screws...you will be SCREWED if you need to remove it.

In the mean time consider a portable refer. When our Norcold crapped out 3 weeks before our appointment for the swap it saved our bacon. LOL Choosing the right size can minimize basement storage needs and give you options for taking it along on picnics and other outings. Of course, you will want to keep it in your coach until your refer problem is solved.

Our coach came with the CF50 and we thought we would never use it. WRONG. It can also provide additional refer or freezer storage for general use also.

Good luck getting it solved quickly.

Yea, well lucky for me the bus is still at the shop, they said they could swap fast if I could just find one. Not a single one in houston that I can locate. Bummer, seems the best solution short term is a plug in mini fridge Doesn't bother me. Maybe install a freezer in my first bay downstairs like I see so many others do.

exactly - ive had no luck finding one locally. The replacement samsung is 2 inches deeper, which might not be a problem as long as the front feet are supported.

Jay,

You may have just waited TOO long on this decision. I am not sure about the RF217 model but if I were you I would Google the Internet for one of the RF197's and then have it shipped to an installation facility on your travel path to have it installed.

It's hard to tell what Samsung plans to do as the RF197's were rare to find months ago and then all of a sudden there were plenty.

Where are you starting from and what is your destination?

I know of some high quality RV shops that will do a great job on the installation.

Ours is an RF217 (long story why) it is larger than the 197 but you could check availability. Here are the dimensions.

Width: 32.25"Height: 69.75"Depth: 32.44"Depth without Handles: 30.5"Exterior Width: 33"

Or ... don't rush, buy a few coolers, buy fresh food, eat out ... think about a viable replacement other than the Samsung. There are plenty of counter-depth reefers. You may or may not need to swap the inverter for a Pure Sine Wave (depending on how you use your RV).

I bought my 197 from this one. It appears they still have them. You might give them a try and see about the shipping.

Might have a solution!

I found an 18.1 CU GE top freezer at a scratch and dent for 540 bucks. Same dimensions as the Samsung but 2 inches less wide and 2 inches less tall. Bought it today, paid someone to take it to Bob Jones RV, install tomorrow. Also uses less energy than the samsung. (*i think*)

Plain jane, black (matches the rest of the appliances in the rv) and I'm hoping this is the right fit, but it looks like it will be.

Jay,

Great Find!

Please post a few photos of what it looks like after installation.
