Carefree slide topper aluminum cover

My motor home has been parked under an oak tree for the past 2 months in FL. This tree has been loosing leaves all winter. My slides have carefree awning toppers with an aluminum shield that covers the fabric when the slide out is closed. However when the slide out is open and anything that falls off the trees seems to find its way between the cover and the fabric. The only way I see to remove the leaves and small sticks is to remove the upper screw and let the cover hinge down. However this creates a problem when only one person is available to reinstall it. On my short slide outs it wasn't a problem but on my long slide out 30' , I put up one end then I could not put the other end in myself. I had to get my Dad to come help me and with 2 people it took about 2 minutes.

Has anyone else figured out a way to remove the debris before closing the slide out? I tried spraying it out with the garden hose, no luck. I tried reaching across the slide out from the roof & using my hands to remove the debris, but I couldn't get very good access. I hope this isn't something I am going to have to do every time we park in a forested area. If so I may just remove this cover permanetly.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding. You're parked with the slides extended for two months and the extended slide toppers have become covered with leaves... I've always just used a ladder and a broom to sweep the leaves off prior to retracting the slides.

I know that debris can get all clogged up in the aluminum cover if the slides are retracted "dirty"... but I'm not clear if that's what you're getting at or not.

No. With the extremely long slide out. The aluminum cover actually has a gap in the center that has allowed the leaves to fill In between the canvas and the cover. I am assuming from the rain when it drains and carries the debris with it.

I will be sure to sweep the awning off before pulling slides in. I would assume running them in dirty could some some extremely impacted in tangos gap

I too am waiting for a suggestion. I cleaned mine but now don't remember how. I believe I took a screw out from each end and the cover flopped open.
