That just might be the smell of boiling batteries.
Next time you smell it, I'd go check my batteries and see if they might be overcharging/boiling.
Depending on the sophistication level of your charger, you may need to adjust a setting to limit how many amps you use to charge. I had to do this with the Dimensions Inverter/Charger in my rig.
