We have Coleman Model 48004969 as a front AC/Heatpump unit. Question about thermostat operation - We are in a location where outside temps range from low 30s (nighttime) to 60s (daytime). We run the 1500W fireplace heater nearly fulltime and it will, mostly, suffice for temps 55 and up.
Question concerns setting the thermostat to electric (heat pump) and leaving it there. The Coleman unit will switch from from the heatpump operation to the LP furnace on it's own when temp variation is at some point.
Is that a problem to let it do this often?

It's no problem for it to do that. Also, if you are running the heat pump and the temperature differential is more than about four degrees, the furnace will come on to supplement.

Also be aware your heat pump just can’t effectively grab enough warm air molecules when ambient temps get down to about 36°F or so. Your overhead fan will continue to run, but warm air won’t be blowing.
