Coleman Mach 3 fan runs for a few seconds, then stops

Hello fellow RVers,

We have a 1997 Winnebago 32’ rig that we got not too longs ago. Well, the front AC unit started acting up, and the fan would start working, then stop after some time. I went up on the roof after it stopped working pretty much altogether, removed the cover, spun the fan by hand, and it started working again. Fast forward to now:
I have spent the day trying to figure this thing out. Luckily I have a rear unit from which to borrow parts!
The symptom: turn on the AC or fan only and the fan comes on for a few seconds, then slows down and stops. I can go on the roof and give ‘er a spin and the fan spins again under power, but for a few seconds and then shuts down, only left with a hum.
I swapped out the 3 capacitors from the rear unit (one at a time) with no change.
I checked the power at the black high speed wire and it’s pretty consistent at 120 VAC.
The fan spins freely by hand if it’s powered down, so it’s not seized up.

I have zero experience with these, so I’m learning, but I would love a complete description of how they work and how to troubleshoot. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

What is the amp draw on the fan? Sounds like the fan motor is shot.

Wouldn't be unusual that the fan motor is bad. I just replaced my front 2007 Coleman unit fan. I was happy that a nearby Camping World had it in stock.

If you've verified that the caps are good....my bet is fan replacement is your future.

Not sure. Would I need an inductive clamp for that?

Got it. I was thinking about taking the fan from the rear unit and swapping it, bu that seems like a lot of work, and it’s been triple digits lately, so I’m holding off on that for now. I’ll figure out how to test the amperage draw and test that first. It doesn’t seem to be pulling a heavy load aside from the slowing to a stop. No other indicators such as a noticeable load on the generator or popping a breaker…

If a Coleman, Save some $ and go to a hvac supply or Grainger & get a Fasco D1095 motor & new run cap. I saved over a hundred bucks over local rv dealer
