What are the implications of connecting an older battery that doesn't hold a charge to a new battery? Will the old battery take down the new battery?

If you have a pair of batteries or bank of multiple batteries they should be replaced together. Yes that old bad battery will pull down and possibly shorten the life of a new battery.
