Converter info and George Boy wiring info
Can someone explain to me if this is transformer or converter. I have recently purchased a 1994 George Boy Swinger. It has the 6.5L GMC diesel pusher. I found this item in the power locker. I have not taken it out camping yet, but have never seen the fan come on in this unit, even when plugged in to shore power. From an older motor home I have (72 Superior) this should charge the coach battery, is that correct? I also have a generator, does it usually charge the coach battery through this converter? Unfortunately I have no access to a wiring schematic for this coach. The fan doesn't turn, is there a way to check if it's working? The outlet it's plugged into tests good. Also any info for an electrical schematic for this coach would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any info.
Thank you
Jeff

You would have to be way down on battery charge and have a lot of time on your hands to watch this fan operate. I do not know what brand unit you have but can definitely tell it is an update from the old battery burner that came with the unit. When everything is operating test the volts coming out of the converter. That will tell you if it is functional or not. Also if your batteries are staying up that is another good sign. It will definitely charge the coach batteries

i have the same unit
it is a converter DOT / truck / ECM safe
your looks max 60 amps
fan only comes on when hot
if you pull it down to much and get a high load on it you well blow the fuse like clock work
when this happens install the right size fuse back in it and live on as nothing is wrong with it

Coach battery is low, at least it won't turn generator over,? Or does the gen have a separate battery? I know that I have a coach battery and frame battery. If indeed if there is a battery for the generator, is there another way of charging it other than the generator itself? Thanks again for any of your help guys I appreciate it.

Generator will work off engine battery not house battery. You will not have a separate battery for the generator

I might have a different situation, because in this diesel pusher the generator is run off the propane, I don't know if that really makes a difference. I think that the battery for the generator must be separate than the chassis battery because, after starting the motorhome the generator cranks over and starts. I guess I've got a lot of digging to do but thanks for your reply.

I think you will find that whether fueled by propane or other fuel the cranking and charging system is the same. Good luck and please let us know what you find.

My generator, (also LP, which BTW, makes no difference), starts off the house batteries......(from what you have written, it sounds like yours does too).
Good luck.

Convertor
Well if it's true that the house battery starts the generator that I have problems I have plugged in the unit to shore power and it's been there for sometime but no charging of the battery. Soon as I get the chance to crawl under it I will do some research, I guess I'll put a voltmeter on that unit first and see if it's getting power out of it, my guess is that it should be producing some form of 12 V power at all times while it's plugged into the AC outlet. I did check the fuses in the unit itself, hopefully it's not bad, I just have to research it, thanks for all your input guys. I truly appreciate it
