Mr D is correct. A sleeve wasn't possible, or at least not practical, rendering the engine useless. I ended up ordering a new generator for about $3,000 more than a used one would have cost. I didn't mention in my original post that I had all of the 5 year maintenance done and afterward is when the engine failed. This maintenance was very expensive, mostly for labor.
For others who may be looking at a similar situation: I spent a lot of money getting to the point of realizing I needed a replacement. In hind site, a generator specialist told me beforehand that a generator this old isn't supported by the manufacturer any longer, so if certain things happen, you are dead in the water. At the time, I didn't think much of what he was saying because the generator was running perfectly. This generator is mounted in a very hard to access spot on the driver's side of the motorhome. It costs big to remove it to do the 5 year + maintenance, such as change the fan belt. For others who have a 15-20 year old generator, you may want to weigh the risks ahead of time and make a calculated decision. I ended up wasting about $6,000 on the old generator in parts and labor. If I had it to do over, I'd just change the oil myself and run the old unit until it died and then buy new. Once again, thanks for all of your input and perspective.
