Do you not put toilet paper in the black tank?
I been camping in 5th wheel and motor home RVs for 42 years and always put toilet paper in the toilet. I camped with 3 different couples that doesn't put toilet paper in the toilet for fear of stopping up the tank outlet. Why, Why and Why? We don't use RV toilet paper and never had a stop up. We always put 3 toilets of water after we empty the black tank and a cup of baking soda. We hold the black tank till we leave or until its almost full. I think if they heard of someone having a stop up, they probably keep the outlet valve open when they have full hookups. Opening the gray tank valve is fine. Keeping water in the black tank is the key. You should only open the outlet valve for the black tank to dump. Did you ever have the black tank outlet stop up?

We have very similar experience as you do. Many years and lots of RVs and flush the TP every time. Don't use RV specific TP either nor do we use chemicals unless its warm out and we'll be days until we can dump. Generally we use lots of water unless we are on a multi day boondock. If we have a dump station where we are camped, we'll dump there and add 5-10 gallons of water for the trip home and dump at home again. If we have no one in line at the dump station, I'll sani-flush if possible. If there is a line, I'll just dump the black and follow up with the grays and get out of the way. It's not rocket science, never had a buildup or a blockage.

We have used Septic Safe TP in our RV toilets since 1984 and the last 10 years full time. Never an issue for us. But we know people with a toilet fetish that only [it the TP in a closed bucket next to the toilet. Surely not my cup of tea.
Just use plenty of water and a septic safe TP and you will be good to go....pin intended.

36-seasons for us before we hung up the keys and, like the OP, we never had any issue with the black tank. TP went where TP is supposed to go (and we used Scott's), plenty of water and keep the dump valve closed until ready to dump. it ain't rocket science.

If it doesn’t go in the toilet, where does it go? The fridge?

Black tank - regular TP and don't skimp on water. No chemicals needed
Gray tank - do a quick wipe of dishes/pots with a used napkin or paper towel. No food particles or grease down the drain. No coffee grounds, either.
16 yr. of full-timing and absolutely no issues!

No. I'm not one of those who puts TP elsewhere.
Baking soda will make the water soft; same as using Calgon but WAY cheaper. Supposedly soft water will reduce buildup on tank sensors. Don't know if that's true or not though.

I have a vac-u-flush so I use 1 ply because the adhesive is bad for the duck bills. no way I would not flush what ever I used.

I know several Vac-U- Flush users that will not put TP in their tank. VF are fussy and prone to vac leaks from duck bills. IMO it's an unnecessary over engineering when simple drop toilets work flawlessly.
I guess some just like to hear the familiar whoosh that's familiar from home?
