Thumbs up Dometic 972 door awning parts

I found that my door awning on my 2002 Winnebago Journey was sticking and causing a "popping" noise when trying to retract. It would stick and would not move, manual attempts to retract is also unsuccessful.

I ended up taking it apart to look at it. I found that the crank arm assembly was the problem. One of the teeth on the gear inside was bent over.

Now the issue; after 3 days of reaserch, one can only buy a new motor assembly for this awning, no individual parts are available. The is $778.00 worth of new motor assembly parts. I don't need a motor, only the gearing crank assembly.

A few questions; 1. anyone know of a place that will sell just those individual parts? I have called everyone I have found on the web (PPL, local guys,e tc) As well as Winnebago, Winnebago Parts, Dometic, etc. Is there a boneyard for used parts for these?

2. What awning can I replace this with? The 975 series seams to be the best choice? Other ideas welcome!!!!

Another option might be to see what a local machine shop would charge you to manufacture a replacement for the gear. Might be financially viable.
