Dometic & Norcold Vent Door

Hi all,

we wanted to give the heads up on the vent door, or the access door for the Dometic and Norcold refrigerators.

We are seeing a rash of new RV Techs.

At any rate, with this rash of new RV Techs, we are seeing a rash of folks that have the lower vent doors blow away when driving home from the repair shop.

So keep an eye out for projectiles when following an RV!

Many of these doors are special painted to match the RV, many of these doors have been on the RV for well over 10 years.

Be sure to do a walk around of your RV before taking it home.

Inspect any area that has been worked on.

Tug on the access doors to make sure that they are shut properly!

It is easier to avoid a problem than deal with the consequences!

Hope this helps

That is a great admonition, thanks for sharing! I must take extra care when replacing mine, the 1/4 turn buttons do not expand properly every time. I've replaced one that broke on the back side, I discovered it when I tugged on the panel to ensure it was latched after I installed my Fridge Defend some years ago.
My MH is only 22 years old, could it have been a defective part? Naah- old things break easily.

We use silicone grease in the little cam that expands the ears within the latch.
This keeps the cam (expander) from wearing down when turned.

Look at the latch carful you when open, twist the catch to witness the expansion of the ears.

Take note of the ears, are the ears sharp where the latch grabs the mating surface? If they are rounded of, may consider getting some spares.

Take care
