Dometic Fridge (RM3862) - freezer cold, fresh food compartment - not

Dometic Fridge (RM3862)

Hey, any ideas on what to check if a freezer is cold enough (cold enough is, it could freeze ice cream hard!), but the bottom part (fresh food) is not cooling at all?

I might not know what to expect since this is my first RV. I think I was a little hasty on the freezer's coldness. I just put a probe in there and the freezer is only at 22 degrees now (so not cold enough yet for hard ice cream). I turned it all on for the first time this morning at 11AM. So, its been about 7 hours and the freezer is 22 degrees and the fresh food compartment is still about ambient temp. Is this normal for these units? Do they take a long time to get cold and the freezer always gets colder first? By the way, I am on AC power trialing all this.

Hi! With an absorption fridge (which is what a Dometic is), it takes up to 48 hours for it to cool down. They cool down slowly. First thing to cool is the freezer... then when the freezer is cold, and only then, the fridge part begins to cool. The fridge and RV must be very level. If it is not level, the fridge won't work properly, if at all. Use a level or the level on your iphone (an app) and if not level, drop the jacks and level out your RV. Hope this helps. When I plan on making a trip, I start the fridge 2-3 days in advance; load the food in it just before leaving.

My freezer will get cold first. Then the refer. Ice cubes begin in about 10 hours.

At 80 degrees ambient, it needs at least 24 hours of operation on electric to hit the zero and 37 degree targets. A bit faster result on propane.

You need to wait at least 24 hours for a verdict.
