Dometic ices up on the freezer side and then stops cooling the fridge side.

I pre-cool it for a day and it seems to be fine on both sides (freezer left door, fridge right door. I learned not to overpack it already but what happened on my first outing of the year it was good for two days, left side gets all iced up and then stops cooling the right side. I know that an iced up left side will prevent cooling the right so what would cause the overcooling on the left?

A few things:

I set it at 5 of 6 - Is that too cold for the freezer side?

The unit won't switch to ac which I read can be anything from a blown glass fuse to something major - If it is cooling on gas is this related to the problem ior just another issue that came up at the same time? I will fix it of course, but is that likely to have any effect on the cooling.

It is a 2004 and the freezer has an icemaker I leave it turned off at the outside tap because I don't use it. Could that be a factor?

I had a similar issue last year but thought I resolved it by not overpacking.

Or is it just a sign of a tired old fridge?

Thanks for any responses

Sounds like a bad seal around the door.

YEP...freezer door seals not closing fully and allo warm air to be sucked in
Also.......every time you open the doors cold air rushes out/replaced by warm air so minimize time doors are open

Not working on AC
Verify the outlet fridge is plugged into is working
YES...then need to remove cover on lower circuit board and check the GLASS fuse on circuit board ---it is the fuse for the electric side
If blown.....bad heater element---replace element
If blown and element is good...then circuit board AC circuit is probably shorted

If not blown and you verify AC is on both sides of fuse..then could just be a bad

heater element---replace

Course this is ALL generic......
Actual MODEL of fridge will result in more specfic info

Thanks for the responses. The fridge is an NDR 1292. I can still get a seal kit but will take 3-4 weeks from the Ebay supplier.

Who would be a good source if I need to get the heater element or circuit board or should I just go to the nearest Dometic parts dealer? The original part numbers from Dometic suggest I may need to go aftermarket.

So no 110 power to the outlet where the fridge plugs in. I can string a cord directly the the fridge and it works and other 110 outlets are working. Some kind of interruption between main shore power input and that specific fridge outlet. No breaker listed for the fridge so it's a bug hunt.

As far as fridge gasket goes it seems like there is play in the hinges so I need to either adjust or replace them rather than the gasket.
