Dometic portable cooler/freezers

Just about to pull the trigger on a Dometic CFX3 95 Dual Zone cooler/freezer. The little lady requires a med that MUST remain frozen until thawed for use. A couple month supply of this med is about the $1450 price of the freezer. I could go with a much smaller Dometic for $700 say but having the dual zones seems a no-brainer.

Also getting the $850 Dometic lithium battery that will power it for a couple days supposedly. We CAN NOT risk having this stuff thaw out as it would have to be tossed and if we're 1000 miles from home we would have a serious problem on our hands. We sometimes do some long drives and we've found that our Norcold freezer isn't that well insulated so we can't trust leaving it in the Norcold for a long day's drive.

These Dometics get rave reviews but if anybody here has any useful info I'm all ears.

My main reservation is this thing weighs 70 pounds but once in the crew cab it would stay there. It would be nicer to have it in the ORV 21RWS but it takes up too much space.

I bought my basement freezer from Home Depot. Works on AC or DC. Loads from the top. I have had it several years and paid around $350. My indoor/outdoor thermometer in the coach says its -6.3 right now.

Would you be able to supply the brand and model of this freezer?

Check out Edgestar 120/12 volt freezes on Amazon. We have used ours to 8 years.

We've had a Dometic CFX 50W for about 3 years and have been very happy with it. Although technically not a dual zone, it will keep stuff frozen on one side and refrigerated on the other side. When boondocking or Jeep camping, we use a Goal Zero Yeti lithium connected to a 100w solar panel and have never run out of power. Without the solar, the Yeti will power the Dometic for 7 days. There's many other good portable fridge/freezers available but Dometic seems to be in the top 5. https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/revie...ometic-cfx-50w

I have 2 Engel Fridge Freezers. They have a rotary compressor.
One of the best rated.

Does the lithium battery fit inside it? Not sure I see a huge benefit for a lithium over an AMG battery for the sole purpose of keeping fridge running in a power loss situation ,besides the size. Will you also need a separate charger for the lithium battery if it's stand alone battery.

Looks like a good combi, appears the battery will charge off your 12 volt truck alternator when driving.

Yes it will. That is a big plus. I also figure that if we're truly boondocking our ORV's solar will keep the battery charged and then a few hours before we need to leave we can fire up the genny to pre-chill the freezer using 120v.

While I haven't operated my smaller CFX35 in freeze mode, I can say that your choice of Dometic brand is a good one. I know of many users of the CFX line of units, and have never heard of an issue (these are mostly off roading folks who bounce theirs around alot).
The Dometic powerpack is a GREAT addition. I feel both will serve you well...and should store your DW's meds carefree.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! Still going in circles between CFX3 55IM and the 75DZ.

Depends how much you can carry if needed The 75 is pretty big (huge).

Yeah, it's a bit less than my Equalizer hitch but at least it has handles!
If I had any common sense I would get the 55 but I'm a sucker for versatility.
