Dometic rm 2193 fridge - works, then doesn't

I've got a Dometic rm 2193 in my 1996 Four Wheel Camper. I assume the fridge came with the camper in 1996. Fridge is a 3 way fridge. Seems to run fine on 110 ac. Haven't run it to much on 12v dc, but the few times I have, it seems to work ok. My problem is running it on propane.

I'm preparing for a 4 day camping trip to the desert, so I tested it last week and it worked very poorly. I pulled apart the burner, the jet and the chimney and cleaned them (cleaned burner by soaking in alcohol and blowing dry with air). Put it back together and now I get a nice blue flame.

2 days ago i turned it on high and it got down to 32 degrees. Yesterday, I came home at 5:00 and it was at 32 degrees, sitting in direct sun on a 90 degree day (it's in direct sun from about 1:00 onwards). I checked again at 7 pm and it was up to 54 degrees. I'm checking with a remote thermometer, with the remote in the fridge, so I don't have to open the door to check. The flame was still burning just fine and the tubes were all hot. I checked again about 9 pm and it dropped 2 degrees. This morning it's down to 32 degrees again.

Any ideas why it would warm up to 54 with the burner still going? It was sitting in the sun all day, so I don't think that would cause it. I checked the propane tank and it's about 1/2 full.

Thanks for any ideas.

couple ideas....

1. Do you have any type of fan setup on the coils outside the fridge?

2.Will your awning, when deployed put shade on the outside wall where the fridge is located?

I recently added a couple 12v computer fans to the bottom of the coils ( access from the outside hatch) to increase flow through the fridge flue. Also verified the increase by standing on ladder next to fridge chimney. The increased flow helped efficiency.

I also recently tested my fridge with the shade effect. temps were 10 degrees cooler in the box with shade on the fridge wall.

I understand that our small 2193s can only reduce the temperature by 50 to 60 degrees. Your fridge was likely baking in 100 degree plus direct sun and could not cope. Many have installed a baffle and two fans in the outside compartment to force feed air over the fins at the top (outside). This helps a great deal in regions where the temps are high. As mentioned, keeping the rear fridge covers out of direct sunlight is also helpful.
