Dometic roof A/C: compressor, no fan

Our front roof A/C is a Dometic 600315.321. Intermittently (don't we all hate that word?) the compressor will come on without the fan. I can switch the fan from Auto to On on the thermostat and solve the problem temporarily. Or I can turn off the circuit breaker for the front A/C or remove the thermostat from the wall plate, either of which, of course, stops the compressor and the fan. Sometimes when it is acting up I will remove the thermostat for a while, and when I plug it back in the A/C comes on normally.

A couple of years ago I replaced the thermostat with a residential programmable Honeywell. Worked fine for a couple of years. When this same issue occurred last month my troubleshooting led me to believe the problem was in the thermostat, so I replaced it with a new one of the identical model. That seemed to have solved the problem for a while, then yesterday it returned to its previous behavior.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt reply. If that capacitor is bad would the fan still run when in the ON position, as mine does? If so, where is it located, on the control board?

Thanks.

No....I missed that detail in your first post

Thermostat is just a switch whether in Auto or Manual
Auto fan circuit is connected with A/C start/stop signal (t-stat closing/opening)
Manual is direct to Fan circuit

IF fan runs OK in manual...starts/stops w/o intermittent operation BUT does have intermittent operation in AUTO then that is sounding more like a control board issue

****Capacitors (start/run) are up on roof under shroud inside a panel

Control Board/Module.....inside A/C accessed via ceiling grill (where the evap coil and AC/DC wiring is)

Got the Brand/MODEL of the A/C Unit???

He has posted the model already, the control board is located in the A/C unit on the roof. What he has is a stat problem , not a A/C problem just my opinion on

Replaced the OEM thermostat then replaced the 'replacement' thermostat with another new thermostat

Wiring from t-stat to control board or control board

Thanks for the further info. The brand and model was also in my original message. It is a Dometic 600315.321, which apparently is also known as a Duo-Therm 600 Series Penguin.
