Replaced my motor assy last year. The drive gear ( a tri lobed alum unit) is held on the shaft by a push on washer. The shaft had rounded out the hole in the gear allowing the motor to turn freely. I'd already purchased a new assy so installed it, but old one I repaired by cross drilling the shaft and gear, and installing a cotter pin.

Wellllllll, the end of the trail ! I pulled the motor and the part that hooks the tube to the motor stayed inside . I didn't realize this until I had completely disassembled the motor and all the planetary gears. I couldn't find anything that could be slipping so in disgust , I ordered a new motor for $360.
Then last night as I lay in bed contemplating the problem it came to me. That damn piece that was still inside the drum. Needless to say I spent most of the night pizzed off and playing solitaire on my phone. To add to my glee, Good Sam extended service policy does not cover the awning on plans written before 2010 ! So there you have it.
If this is the worst thing that happens to me this year, I'm a lucky man !

We found that out on our GS policy also. MH was in the shop, policy inside it, so we just read about the coverage on their web site. I really lead us to believe the awning was covered. They told us it was a rider we could have purchased. Dropped GS after only one year.

I also discovered that unless you add the Gasket and Seals to your extended service warranty you could be left in a mess.
I am now also looking into Coach Nets extended service policy
Good Sam is a tricky bunch ! Not to be trusted !!

The final chapter !
After trying to order a new awning motor from Camping World ( they are a joke ) I ordered it and received it from Dyers . It was a very easy install.
Once again there is peace in the valley !!

Similar but different probelm
My weather pro awning will not extend, without help, past the protective cover. I checked the voltage at the plug (13.5 volts). I'm thinking the motor needs replacing. I thought I would run by the IRV group for anything else I should check before ordering a motor.

Once out, will it roll back up unassisted ?

Chuck, It has always come in. A couple of times on our last trip, I would hit the retract button and it did not come in. But each time, I would release the button and try again it would come in.

On the opposite side of the motor is a counter balance spring that can be loosened or tightened to assist the motor.
If you go on line you can't find the instructions on how to adjust that spring.
Depending on the year of your awning those motors can be very expensive !

Don't add or remove winds to the spring unless it doesn't have the correct amount.
Carefree of Colorado has something called tractioners for that reason.
They are used if the motor keeps spinning the tube but doesn't actually unroll out past the metal wrap. Is that what yours is doing or does it just stop all together?
You said 13.5V at the plug. I guess at the motor? Is that under a load with the motor trying to spin or not?

The motor does not spin it just stops like it does not have enough power to get past the metal cover.

Chuck,
I'll look at the instructions for relieving the tension on spring. The motor is expensive so that is the reason I'm seeking others suggestions.
Thanks,
Bill

If you relieve tension on the spring and have the incorrect amount, then the awning may not roll up.
