Dreaded Red Light on Norcold recall Box

Hi everyone.
Is there a way to temporarily bypass the recall box on a Norcold 1200. We are at a campground in Marathon, FL. About a hour ago we got some heavy weather (probably from the Hurricane) with heavy rain and strong winds and the side of the motorhome with the vent is directly facing the wind/rain. The recall box's red light is "on" and of course power to the panel is off. I think it probably got wet, the box is mounted just above the side vent. Just looking to get by until we can return to Orlando the middle of next week and have the Dealer look at it. Not showing any signs of failure and has been working good until the storm that just went past.

Thanks,

Randy and Cindy

EXACTLY the same thing happened to us only weeks ago, and because we never received any information on how to reset the new box with the dreaded red light, we had to call in a technician. Our box had caught some water during a heavy rainfall.

The fix took all of 1.5 seconds and cost $100 in call-out and $42.50 for the first half hour of service.

Here is what it took to reset the box:

You wait until the whole "system" is cold. You then hold a magnet to the box in the top right hand corner (a tiny click can be heard when it resets). After that you turn everything back on and Bob's your uncle - Fridge is back working.

Here is how to save $142.50: Follow the above instructions or call Norcold and ask how to reset the box. Don't call out a technician who may not know what he is looking at.

We were advices that the box may turn it self off when voltage is to high or to low, or when the unit gets wet. In our case it got wet.

Good luck.

Sorry for your dilemma. I would advise you not to by-pass it as you're not sure it was from the rain and without the thermal cut off you run the risk of fire which is not a good thing for you and your family. My opinion , others may vary.

First dry off the board. Then place a magnet on the board. That should reset the LED, and get you going again. Keep a magnet stuck to a convienant place on the outside of the Frig.

Thanks Cliff, I do understand your advice. I am 99.99% it was due to rain, but it could be the 0.01 that would get you. We will try the magnet first.

I saw something about the magnet posted before but could not find it, I will run to Home Depot now and see if they have one. Thanks for the reply

Good deal on the magnet. I've heard a few used it with success.

Good luck

Size of magnet?

Not sure, but I would have thought that a decent size "fridge magnet" (the one that holds your grand kids latest creation to the fridge door ) would be OK.

BTW - I forgot to tell you this: If/when it works, you owe me an adult beverage next time we meet you on the road
