Duo Therm Brisk air intermittently will not run

My rear A/C unit on my 2000 Tropical will not turn on at times. First time I tried to run it only compressor came on so I checked to make sure fan motor turned freely. Checked wiring and connections to Capacitors. Turned A/C on and it took 5 minutes before A/C started usually starts in 30 seconds, before it started I checked for voltage at Capacitors and found none. A/C has been running all day but suspect that if I shut it down it won't restart with 90+ degrees temps outside I don"t want to take a chance. Has anybody had similar symptoms and what was the cause? Since it is still blowing cold I suspect possibly the module, 12v relay for 110v to fan motor and compressor or thermostat. Any help would be appreciatted.

Once a capacitor is charged up, you might get a reading of zero until it discharges. Start capacitors have flat lids that the terminals are fastened to. If the top has bulged, it's an obvious sign the capacitor is bad. CAUTION always discharge any stored voltage in a capacitor before working with it. Use an old screwdriver and short the terminals together to get rid of the possibly thousands of volts stored within! Most A/C units have capacitors that start the compressor and a separate circuit to start the fan.

Trying to restart a compressor too soon after it stops is a sure way to damage things. Pressures build up in the system and must have 5 minutes or more to equalize pressures so the compressor can start again. Most A/C units have a built in circuit that delays restarts.

Had the same problem with the rear Brisk Air on our 2000 coach and it turned out to be a faulty control module. We had the 4 button T-stat and they no longer stocked the 4 button T-stat control module so had to install a new 10 button T-stat and control module on both units. Also had to replace start capacitor on the front unit.

Good luck and let us know your fix....

Thanks for suggestions

After the initial start up issues as stated in my original post, both units have operated correctly. I did 0bserve that the 4 button thermostat had various issues related to the fan and mode swiches. Since this is the only apparent problem I am going to replace all 4 switches in the thermostat. Thanks again for the help.
