Electric toilets

Hi,

Just wondering why coaches have electric toilets. Is it because the toilets are not over the black tank? Any other reasons?

Thanks,

They are supposed to be easier to flush and the controls modulate the water for supposed better cleaning. Seems like increased complexity giving you another thing to go wrong to me.

You'll generally find them in a location away from the black tank, such as a rear bathroom like our Phaeton. There is a macerator built into the toilet that grinds up waste so it can be pumped through a smaller app 2" flex pipe to the black tank. There are some electric toilets that are just straight dump, but I think the reason for those is just bling.

We had an electric toilet in our previous boat. Boats usually have the holding tanks higher than the toilet and not always near by, so a means to pump are required. As mentioned, macerator grinds it all up. Mine used a 1" discharge hose.

That in fact is where mine is also, the 1/2 bath in the middle. The single black tank is all the way at the rear (no pun intended) and there is a pedal toilet directly over it. This is the best of both worlds because we'll never have "poop pyramid" worries because that's reserved for the macerating toilet in the 1/2 bath.

I have what is called a hydro-vac in my rear toilet, in my Holiday Rambler. Any Idea how to make it flush, mine won't, just dumps water in the bowl

If I were ever to call Newmar to order a new coach, Id insist that they build it with a gravity toilet.
