Electrical cord

OK, I need a new 30A cord, the 50 foot is 30 bucks more, should I spring for it? I have an old 30 foot which always have been long enough so I wonder if the extra length will be an asset or be in the way. BTW we have only been to a few parks so I am not that worldly with different parks and what I may encounter.

Hi.

I prefer molded ends instead of replacement ends, that's just me.
If you are a 30 amp rig. I would have 2 x 25' cords. I say this because most times the 25' will work. Although I have been to parks where I needed an extra 5 or 10 feet. It's nice to have the extra when you need it only.

30' has been sufficient 99 % of the time. It's that 1% that reminds you that you need more. I have 50 amp and didn't want to carry a spare 50 amp cord , so I bought a 25' 30 and when I need extra length , I adapt down to 30 and use the CG 30 amp outlet.
You could have a 30' and a 15'or 20' spare to attach when needed. This way you won't have to use a 50' cord in those 99% of the times when 30' will do.

Like everyone is saying just make a 30ft with the molded plug put it on the unit and the extra get two ends and have the extra if it's needed.

I have used these and they work good plus they have handles

Me too - when I had my A's with 50A and only carried a 30A 30' extension and all the adapters that would convert to any power configiration with the minimum length of cord for the job. In many places I went to, only had 30A service anyway, but of course 50A is better and I got it where I could and most 50A outlets were accessible with my regular 30' 50A cords.

Now have a B+ and only have 30A and I kept the 30A 30' extension. Have had to use it on occasion also. I also carry 2x 25' 12ga cords when I need a long run from a 15/20A circuit and the distance is > 60'. Have used the 110' cord combo a couple of times but have not run the ac or electric water heater or even fridge on 12v or 120vac, when connected that way, but it kept the batteries charged and I used the inverter outlets for the most part when I needed 120vac. Never put my kill-a-watt device on the line to see what I was drawing nor did I measure voltage drop. Will do that with different combinations to test during different load conditions.

Would like to hear from others who have tested similar.setups with varying load scenarios.

Thanks

When I plug into 20 Amp. I run my fridge and battery charger. That's about it. Plus lights of course.

Second, Additional reasons.

As Gorlininc said, Usually the shorter cord (25 or 30 foot) will work, if it does then

The shorter cord, plus an extension cord, means that on most sites you have

1/2 the length to wrangle and re-coil when done
1/2 the weight to wrangle
1/2 the voltage loss in the cord.

And because of the extension cord you still have the longer cord if you need it. Which on very rare occasions I do.
