I have used one of those Extend-A-Stay adapters off and on for a few years with no problems. Lately though when running the furnace or hot water heater (i.e., drawing propane from the tank) either the Extend-A-Stay, or the propane tank regulator makes a whistling noise. It's pretty load too.

If I shut off the propane tank at the valve, of course it stops. I leave it off for awhile and turn it back on and it's okay, for awhile. But then after a while it starts whistling again.

Anyone run across this situation. Makes me think either the Extend-A-Stay, or maybe the regulator is going bad.

I just installed a Extend-A-Stay today. I noticed that the regulator was a bit noisy with the extra tank flowing.

I wonder if cold weather or external tank gas pressure is the cause?

There is nothing in the Extend-A-Stay to go wrong - it's just a tee fitting.

A new regulator doesn't cost all that much to try, but I suspect it is just the sound of a large volume of propane running through.
