Fantastic fan squeak fix idea

Hi all, we’ve been suffering with a squeaky fantastic fan for a while now. It’s the kind with the flat gold motor. Seams new replacement motors are also prone to squeaking out of the box. From what I’ve read, it’s actually the brushes making noise, not bearings. Drilled a small hole in the housing (at the bump out on top) and squirted some Teflon dry lube (bike chain type). Instant squeak fix. Generally oils are bad around brushed motors commutators but I’m hoping the “dry” aspect will stop those problems from occurring. Wondering if anybody else has done something like this and what the long term effects are ie no squeak or shorted motor or ….

Sounds like a good fix. Thanks for sharing and let us know if it affects the fan long term.

If I remember right I read they went to 3rd generation a black pancake motor without the spiked inner hub. It supposed to be better than gold.
