Flat Tire Hint

A few days after parking in southern FL for a couple months of sunshine DW noticed front tire FLAT. Called Coach Net. New $400 plus tire on truck if needed. Tire wear or damage not problem. Lots of soap - bead seating, no holes and valve stem all OK. Looks like battery operated tire pressure transmitter removal caused problem. To save batteries I remove tire transmitters when parked for month or more. Sensor presses schrader valve as it is screwed on so sensor becomes air seal for valve stem. We are guessing now because tire holding air just fine - when transmitter was removed valve came out slowly and did not seat/seal! Truck service call covered by our roadside service policy. Twenty dollar tip to learn another RV lesson. Well worth it. Best news is lesson learned while PARKED. So from now on when you remove sensors, flick the valve a couple times to be sure it is thoroughly seated.

A valve stem cap would seem to be appropriate here.

Agree and there was one. Just not strong seal needed for higher pressure tires. There may be some better ones out there - but I will still pop the valve a couple times in the future.

Thanks. I will be installing my new TPMS in the spring and will remember your tip when we store in the fall.

Our TPMS came with a valve tester/manipulator, but really all you need is a small flat screwdriver or some other similar item. Or just spray some soapy water on the valve just to be certain...works for me.

this is one of the reasons I have a spare tire mounted on a rim in storage under my coach. it is a little late now, but if you have the space under the coach a rim used can be had for $25 to $50 and a fare used tire for $100. AAA will change your spare for free on the side of the road. you bypass the side of the road rape that the road service guys give u. when you get home you have time to shop and find a tire that meets your needs not just the one that the service guy has on his truck... and just to keep it in perspective I run 11R22.5 tires
