Gas stove running lean or rich? help please.

On our last trip out, I was outside with my son, while my girlfriend was cooking. I smelled something burning and came inside to see the whole bottom of the pot black and the flames yellow. when I turned it down to a lower setting everything seemed fine. The other 2 burners work perfectly fine. Is this a problem in a regulator? Air in the lines? Any advice is appreciated.

With the burner adjusted properly, you should have a blue flame with just a lick of yellow at the tips, if any at all. A yellow flame indicates too much air (a lean mixture). It also could be yellow due to a foreign substance burning on the bottom of the pot. Also, if the other 2 burners are working fine, then I doubt if it is a regulator problem. Take that burner out and check it carefully for any obstructions.

That all makes perfect sense. It does it with no pot on the stove, so its something in the burner. I wasn't sure if there were separate regulators, but if there is only one, then I agree, its a burner issue. Maybe tonight I'll take it apart and clean it all out.

Is there any way to adjust burners independently?

Is there a way to check the control knob valve too?

Not sure about that, but the know seems to be adjusting fine, the flame does get bigger and smaller as required, it just burns yellow.

Could be rust build up in the tube between the control and the burner, or some other foreign obstruction. Remove the burner ASM and shake it to see what might fall out. Doubt the air adj has changed overnight the air adj is screwed in place.

Take the assembly out and look for obstruction within the tube (spider nests most common), rust holes on the tube, or missing screens that may be present on the burner assemblies that are working correctly. Propane needs a certain % of air to burn properly and too much or not enough isn't good.

Each burner should have its own "shudder" to regulate the amount of air that is mixed with the gas. Perhaps the one has loosed with vibration and changed it's adjustment?

I think probably PushedAround has it. Our burners have a plate on top of the burner ("shudder") and on the underside of those plates, there's two raised ridges that fit into two grooves on the top of the burner. If these two slots are not in their respective grooves, we get the same result you're describing.

X2 on the spider web. Those things LOVE propane. Pull the burner tube (one screw usually) and physically run something through it. Air won't work. That should do it.

OK, who's in the pool? We have D Lindy, NFlcamper and ahicks saying it's and obstructed burner tube and myself and scenic route saying it's a shudder adjustment. Who else wants in on this?

Check the easy stuff first then work up the scale.....And the first thing is the front burner is hotter than the other two. Probably nothing wrong with the burner
