GE16EXT Water Heater Issue

I have a GE16EXT water heater in a Discovery. It heats water fine in either mode. However, in both modes, it seems to heat to access and then goes into fault mode. I am think a new thermostat but wondering if anyone has experienced this issue. Thanks in advance for your help!

Atwood GE16EXT water heater is a 10 gal tank that uses a HIGHER temp T-stat (160*F) and a Mixing Valve set for 130*F output into hot water plumbing lines
*10 gal normal t-stat is 140*F

Both Gas & Electric are controlled by same 160*F t-stat/130*F Mixing Valve

Both on at same time results in fastest recovery time but 160*F t-stat should still open/control temp

IF ECO is tripping/locking out operation/triggering Fault light then T-stat is NOT opening soon enough.
ECO (energy cut off---High temp t-stat) trips at 180*f

If ECO is opening...time for new set T-stat & ECO

Atwood 91547 (EXT set of t-stat/ECO)

By "goes into fault mode", do you mean the ECO opens, or something else? Old Biscuit explained about the ECO, but not clear that is what you meant.

I am referring to the red fault light coming on and heating stops. I can shut the heater off and when the water cools, it will start heating again. System always heats until it faults. I have not tested the temp but it feels very hot

I ordered the T-stat and ECO kit. This seems like the 1st step.

Thank you all for the input
