Generator Question

I have a 2006 Allegro Bay with an Onan Marquis Gold 7000 generator.Only 500 hours.
I have not run the generator for about two months. It turned over fine but would not stay runni9ng. It would fire up for about two seconds and then stop running. I could prime it again and the same result. Over and over again. Every time I primed it, the same thing. I got an error code of 41. I found out from the manual that it could be one of two things:
1) Rotor Fault...what is that?
or
2) Starving for fuel. My tank is about 3/8 full and the generator is "supposed" to cut itself off after the tank is down 1/4.

I rarely use the generator but I want it running if I need it.
Any suggestions????

thanks, Leo

I'd say it is starving for fuel since it starts every time you "prime" it with fuel. I would do the easiest thing first and that is fill the gas tank. You are too close to the 1/4 tank mark to assume you have enough gas.

Generators, and any other fuel burning unit should be run to full operational temperature at least once a month.

When a generator especially (gas) hasn't been run for a period of time and doesn't stay running, has high and low RPM's, just runs "rough". The cause is almost always vanish in the carburetor bowl. The cause can be fuel filter restriction, air filter restriction, spark plug out of gap as well a host of other mechanical causes. However the main cause a majority of the time is, varnish in the carburetor.

Best of luck on troubleshooting and repairs of your unit.

Go to your local Cummins distributor, they can be found on the net. Dont just go to a truck service center who has a Cummins logo on the side of the building. Order yourself a copy of the service manual for your unit. Be very specific about service manual, or they might try and sell you an operators manual. An operators manual would be useless for what your trying to do. You'll need the model number, serial number and spec found on the data tag. Marquis gold 7700 is not the info they'll need to get you the service manual. The model number is likely 7ghab.

The manual will have troubleshooting step by step process for that fault code. From memory I'd guess that fault means the rotor resistance is to low. But when you get the manual you'll know for sure.
