If you are into changing things yourself you may want to also check all the connections. Tighten anything with a screw or nut and operate any plugs to find any marginal connections that can warm up and open.

If I'm following this right we're hoping;

The Onan control board which normally would shut down the genset if the generator side of things (120VAC) disappears doesn't do that because of a heat issue. I hope you're right. That would mean two mostly unrelated parts of the board are bad if I'm following this correctly.

I'd have to look at the schematic again but it seems like the generator has to have output if it's spinning. It does need some type of excitation voltage though ( I think )

The fact that the genset was not shutting the motor down would have me thinking there is a good chance the generator is working but the power is not getting to or through the transfer switch. There should be a breaker on the output of the generator plus the wiring to the transfer switch. All that wire and all those connections as well as the parts themselves are possible failure points. I just hope the new board solves your problem! ;-)

Where is your circuit breaker panel? If it is in a closet above the engine compartment or in a place that does not let the heat out the load shedding circuit may be acting up. My panel was hot to the touch. Using some small washers for spacers the cover panel was spaced out about 1/8 inch. This allows air to flow inside and have not had an issue since this.

The breaker panel is located on the generator itself, which, of course, is in an enclosed area at the right rear side of the coach. There is a cover that is popped into place plus the coach cover. There is a warning sticker on the generator that warns not to run the it without the cover installed.

I believe the cover has to be in place for proper air flow/cooling. Running temporarily isn't a problem.

I don't think that's the panel that YC1 is talking about though.
