Generator shutting off

A friends generator runs about 15 minutes and shuts off. I believe it is an onan 7000. Its in a 2002 Montain aire. It seems to be running out of fuel. When it shut down I loosened the drain screw for the bowl and very little gas came out. what is the first thing to check? I tried the clothes pins, don't really think that would apply to a rubber line as far as vapor lock. I can only get the 36 code which just means it shut down with out the switch doing it. Not much help there.

Pumps plenty of gas when I take the hose off and try to prime it.

Any help would be appreciated. I have read alot of old discussions but they were too old to reply to.

Thanks

If you have the manual you can find out how to access the fault codes. You use the start switch to access the codes. It will have two sets of blinks corresponding to the fault. Do not stop at the first set of blinks. There is one more set after the first one. The manual will clarify it. I’m not at the coach now so I don’t have access to a manual.

It sounds like the fuel pump is going bad.

Just went thru this with our Onan the day we were to leave for the Street Rod Nationals. Genny would run for 10 minutes or so and shut off. Cool down and would prime and start right up. When the gen. ran it was smooth and no misses so I was almost certain it was not spark and it was a fuel issue. Pulled fuel line from carb and ran prime button so fuel ran into jug. Looked good and strong. I am like what the heck[not actual words]. Went on line and found a thread about this and fellow who was having same problem. The pump will run fine when cool but it heats up and seizes and no fuel. I get on phone to find a new Cummins/ Onan pump. 7 calls to different place no luck. Finally call RV dealer in Panama City Beach and they have them. Get in car and drive 1 1/2 hours each way to get pump. $130 for pump 21 for filter and tax so 160 later Genny fires and runs fine. We were supposed to leave at 9:00 finally got off at 4:30 and gen ran fine all the way to Louisville. Picked up a back up pump at car show for $20.00. I found numerous other pumps on line that were between 25.00 and 35.00. I was under the gun to make car show so I paid the price. All I got was a low pressure pump with Cummins/ Onan on it. But I did get there.

So how difficult is the fuel pump filter install? I am pretty handy just wondering if any thing to watch for.
