To echo other responses, on a hot 100 F summer (or fall) day driving in Texas and Louisiana we run the generator so we can run the front roof A/C as the dash A/C can not keep up with the sun/heat coming in the front windshield.

Running the generator has little effect on my fuel mileage of 8 - 9 mpg.

I think that running the genny while driving, for the rooftops A/C, is how our Genny got 2000 hours on it before we bought it. With the fur baby just behind the front seats, laying on the love seat, the DW thinking it's too hot for the pup so I fire up the genny and turn on the front A/C.

More genie problems from under / improper use than overv use... Use it or lose it!

that's my understanding too. But we have so regular maintenance so it runs smoothly. Just found a small crack in fuel line where it connects to fuel filter and was dripping a bit. Hose too short to reach far enough so have to splice a bit of hose in.

Everytime I'm outside I check the oil, look for leaks and check that exhaust isn't showing oil burning. I don't relish yanking it out, it's not on a slide out tray, to do a rebuild/major service. It has to be done pretty soon though.

I'm reminded of the time about two months ago when we were headed to Disney on I-4 and travel partners were making french fries in an air fryer. Needed the generator for that.
