Generator will not crank
I have a diesel generator that usually cranks without any issue. We just left Wisconsin in 35-40 degree weather, with 1/2 half tank of diesel. Attempted to crank, the gen will turn over, but will not crank. Any ideas?
Thanks
Thomas

Do you mean that your generator cranks but refuses to start?

My best guess is you're not getting either fuel or air, check your filters first.

The word crank came from the days when you took a handle and stuck it in the end of the crankshaft to turn it over. Now days the starter motor does that.
You crank the engine with the starter until it runs on its own.
So your problem is, you are cranking the engine ( it is turning ) but not starting ( running on its own ).
Diesel engines don't start well in cold weather.
You may have a pre-heat position or button that needs to be held for 30 to 60 seconds, to warm up the combustion chambers or intake air, so the fuel will ignite.
After pre-heating, you then crank the engine until it starts.
Check your operators manual for cold weather starting.

lol, i was spinning my head when i read turn over but not crank...
it's fuel. other than checking filter, fuel lines, etc, pay particular attention to fuel cutoff valve. it wouldn't surprise me if it's dead.
