ok all..I have a 5500 Onan gen in my rv. wont start. It was running then just stopped. So I thought it was not netting fuel. I removed the hose from the carb. I ran prime and no gas came out of the hose. I then took out the fuel filter and could easily blow air through it.
t was not getting fuel. I am thinking it is the fuel pump.
I did squirt some starter fluid in the carb before i removed the fuel line and it turned over a few times like it wanted to start. Any thoughts?

By "turning over like it wants to start" do you mean it is firing with the starting fluid?

First things to check.

Fuel pump, worn out or electrical connection.

Fuel line has opening(s) and the fuel pump is sucking air.

It tries o start with s fluid. If i have the fuel line detached from the carb then hit prime I get no gas through the line. does that mean fuel pump? Onan 5500 gas generator in my rv.

I am leaning towards f/p.. they are cheap enough and simple to change.. you could test for power at the pump with test light.. you could also lightly tap on pump and try to jar the windings to work.. most of us carry spares..

I am going to the fuel pumb. found an aftermarket pump in el paso for 110.00

I like to use OEM when possible but after seeing what Onan wants for a pump, figured I'd try something cheaper. There are plenty to choose from on Amazon that cost less than $25 so I bought one, installed, and haven't looked back. Going on a couple of years now without a hiccup. Something to think about...
