Generator won't stay running

Have an Onan Marque Gold 5500 generator in a 2004 Itasca Suncruiser. Generator starts perfectly, idles for about a minute then kicks in with basic load. Only runs for about 30 more seconds and then simply dies. It won't start then for about 15 or 20 minutes, then fires up perfectly fine and the same thing happens. Can't get it to run for more than about 30 seconds after the load kicks in. Had it running about a mth ago with no issues and about 30 amps load.

Any ideas appreciated.

Have enough fuel in the tank?
Hoses could be sucking air due to loose clamps or dry rot.
Could be bad fuel pump.
Could be loose ground.
Are you getting a code?

I am have pretty close to the same but mine will start and then just sits there chugging and shaking. If I hold the butterfly open it will idle, and as soon as I let go its justs chuges and shakes. I have looked at the fuel pump filter in it and its is clean (no other filter I can find) Rear tank is full of fuel, oil/filters changed. Added a bottle of Lukas fuel and carb, injector cleaner @ time I filled the tank
Ran fine the day before. 1982 Genset 5000, 290 hours. I just refilled the tank again. Should I try another bottle of the gas treatment? Any other ideas?
Tim

Mine isn't quite that old, but former owners didn't run it much. It only had 20 hours on it for the first 4 or 5 years. It would run for 5-10 minutes then shut down. I took it to a shop and they replaced the fuel pump. Now the geny runs fine and starts right up when I push the starter.

Have you checked to make sure the oil level is sufficient?

You might want to try to call onan, I'm sure they have technical help for owners.

Correction its a 6.5 not a 5000. Yep I called Onan and they were no help referred me to a local shop for parts. They want anywhere between 125-150 bucks. After yesterday's fire not sure I am ready to look at it again!!! (other post)
Can I ask what you paid to have a new pump installed?
Thanks Tim

It cost me $480 to have a new fuel pump installed. The pump and filter was $200, (+ $15 shipping) the rest is labor and tax. I am in California after all. Don't flame me for paying too much...... It's fixed and that's what I care about.

Took mine to Cummings had a great tech and me being a retired aircraft mechanic he let me watch. Took him 15 minutes to fix mine and it was the governor set to high. When gen kicked on it was showing an over voltage/ freq. the reason he fixed mine so fast he spent a week on someone else's.

No Flaming from me after my try, F I R E... Yes I thought the same thing with the carb cleaner was able to get a few shots in the carb with a little over spray and then she back fired and then F I R E. Had to get the fire extinguisher out. Now I need a new pump and a new Electric Choke.
$500.00 bucks sound pretty good to me right now!!!!
