Gennie failure Help

The Gennie Onan 6.5 1982 model 260 hours has always ran fine. On Monday we ran it all day ran fine sounded the best since we bought it. We just changed the oil 2 weeks ago. Now it will start but runs like its staving for gas.(shakes, sputters) Took fuel pump apart and the screen was clean. No filters to the gas tank. Gas tank is full. We added a bottle of Lukas gas treatment @ last fill up.
Any ideas
Tim

Check your fuel line from generator to fuel tank. We had a fuel line crack on our Allegro that caused it to have symptoms just like yours. Ours had a fuel filter but it was hidden from view and I suspect yours has one too. Have you changed the air filter lately? You mentioned oil change so I assume you changed the oil filter then.

Gennie failure Help

You should probably change the fuel lines for use with E10 fuel. Carburetor gaskets and seals from 1982 are not going to be happy with E10 either.

Yes we changed the oil filter and the air filter wasn't bad so I blew it out with air hose.We have looked from the gennie to the fuel tank and no other filters unless its on the top of the tank and then we would have to drop it.( its full 75 gallons)
I am going to try and place fresh gas in a glass and run a line to the fuel pump. I am thinking the lukas did something like breaking some gunk loose or something it ran perfect the day before.
Thanks Tim

Tim, You are on the right track by supplying the unit with a seperate fuel supply. I would also suggest testing of the current pump to ensure it's capable of the proper volume. Remove the fuel line from the carb, aim it into fuel jug or can and attempt to start the unit - you should see ample flow that should produce 3-4 ounces of fuel in 15 secs or so. Carbs of that vintage are rebuildable and the gasket sets are still available. A combination of no fuel filter plus the extremely low runtime hours (which causes the fuel in the carb bowl to varnish) and the addition of the fuel treatment which probably broke up the sediment/varnish in the bowl, has resulted in that particulate finding it's way into the carbs jets and air passages causing your current issues.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I took the line to the fuel pump and put it in a jar with fresh gas. It took almost a minute for me too see it going down. (side note) (when I removed the line from the pump nothing came out of the pump or the line to the gas tank) I blew back to the tank and it didn't seem blocked. I tried to blow in the inlet into the pump with a air hose and it blew back. I tried the air hose going in the outlet and same. I also blew up the line to the carb. It will run on a very low idle if I hold the governor closed for about a minute
I believe the pump is shot. CW gave me a price of around $160.00 for a new one.
94-Newmar, is it hard to rebuild? Where do I start looking for parts? I am trying to keep everything as close to original as possible as the MH is in almost new condition.

Kudos to this site and its members, Thankyou,
Tim

Just head to the local auto parts store and get a 12v carter fuel pump or equivalent. They're only 6-7 lbs of pressure and more than ample flow. Don't get a pump that exceeds 10 psi. Approx 65.00 and it comes with a replaceable filter :-)
