Hard Start Capacitor?

My new TT has a 15k BTU Dometic Brisk Air 2 air conditioner. I have a 4000 watt generator, which can easily power it. However, sometimes, even after warming the generator up, the AC starting will overload the generator, causing it to trip its overload circuit or stall out. It doesn't always do this, but usually on the first start of the day it will. After it's running, it is fine for the most part, and hovers around 16A total use, according to the generator.

I've seen various discussions about a hard start capacitor to alleviate the problem. I've also seen discussions where people mention that their units have a start capacitor already. Does anyone know if these units generally have the hard start capacitor already installed? Are the people who say to add one correct that this would solve the problem of the generator being overloaded for that brief second? Is a hard start capacitor different than a start capacitor?

The link says rite in the description " does not fit Brisk II ! We just had a new 15M Brisk II install also ( warrentee replacement ) i plugged it into my Watt Saver gizmo, set to read amps used. When the fan kicked on, it was using 4.6 amps, when the compressor cut in , it jumped to over 16 amps ( although the meter is rated 15 amp max ) then dropped to fluctuating in the mid 12.5 amps !

Would be nice to know if the unit has a hard start cap. in it already ?

I'm not sure if my unit has a capacitor or not. I haven't been up on the roof to look. I was hoping to get an idea before climbing up there, but thanks for the info.

Thanks, that thing looks very interesting! I will definitely check them out. From the sounds of it, that'll make starting the AC a lot easier!
