Heat Pump in a 2017 Coachman Leprechaun 260 DS

Hi All,

When my heat pump comes on, it makes a buzzing sound, then the air blower comes on...that's all normal. Then when the temp is satisfied, the buzzing stops, then the blower, still normal. But sometimes, could be an hour could be 5 hrs. the air blower will turn off and the heat pump continues buzzing. Is that normal? Is it purging, or does that indicate a problem? Thanks in advance!

It's only 8 years old but I suppose you could have a bad start/run cap in the heat pump. I don't know of many situations where a buzzing is normal with heavy equipment. On the other hand, you could have had a tree leaf somehow get sucked into the heatpump and it's hitting the fan blades? A bit wild though.

What is the outside temp when you try to run it? AC units designed for low ambient operation will usually have crankcase heaters on the compressors. RV AC/Heat pumps are not designed to be the only source heating in very cold weather. Once they are running, they can stay going as temps drop. For a first start mine complain loudly if it is near 30 outside.

Thanks for the reply. It's been around freezing, but even at 40-50 degrees it acts the same. Been using propane instead, but the cost is adding up.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into that.

Now AC is doing it

So now the AC is acting the same way. I talked to a mobile RV tech and he said it was the control board, cost $300 plus labor. Does that sound right?
