Hinge Kit on Norcold N8XCL

The Norcold hinge kit doesn't fit my Norcold N8XCL. It's not only too short, but there is an internal rib on the inside that doesn't let the connected backing plate line up. Couldn't really get a good picture of the plastic rib. Here are a few pictures of what I did.
Once I cut off the backing plate, I split it in two and used them. I had to relocate one of the holes because it was in the same spot as the rib on the bottom of the door. All in all, I'm still happy. I used both the included washers on the bottom hinge to bring up the height of the door. It was a little low. Now it's perfect.

Yeah, there isn't a hinge kit that exactly matches our Norcolds. I did the same thing .... cut off the bent over portion. Then it fits fine.

Thanks for posting these detailed pictures and steps. This appears to be important preventative maintenance, and the fridge should include this metal part as a standard bit of kit. I mean, they KNOW it is a problem, which is why they sell the aftermarket kit in the first place. Or maybe they don't think its a problem anymore which is why this kit hasn't been updated to fit the current line of fridges. But your guide to which piece to cut off with a hacksaw is very helpful and works. Thanks!

Sorry the pictures are sideways. I posted yesterday just as family was showing up for a BBQ.

My hinge is on the left side of the door as you face it. The kit has two hinges. No matter which side your hinge is on, it has one that works. I have a left over hinge for doors with a right side hinge. If someone wants it.

Norcold Polar Series (N7/N8/N10) OEM Hinges.....Norcold 639508

IF current fridge hinges are OK and you are looking to 'adjust' door go to local ACE Hardware and purchase some 'teflon/plastic' washers to use on hinge post ---just add/remove to move door Up/Down (most cases UP..add to lower hinge)

I know this will be a newbie question, but what is the purpose of the hinge kit? I have a Norcold N7.

The original hinge is just a plastic piece sticking out from the door that allows the pin to go through it. It carries the weight of the door. They have been known to break. So much so that Norcold has a fix for it. A metal hinge kit. Its just a custom made piece of metal. It's supposed to be a more straightforward fix than mine turned out to be. I had to modify mine to make it work.
